How To Make A Room Spray
A refillable spray bottle of your favourite scent, ready in three minutes. Here's exactly how, and which base to choose for the finish you want.
Welcome
If you've ever wished a room could smell exactly like your favourite candle without lighting it, this is the project for you. Room sprays take three minutes to make, last for months, and let you carry your favourite fragrance into every corner of the house.
We make two bases. The right one depends on whether you want a soft scent or a strong one, and whether you mind a slight cloudy finish. We'll walk you through both.
Choose Your Base
Both make beautiful room sprays. The differences come down to fragrance strength, clarity, and a touch of ethanol.
Everyday option
Soft scent · cloudy finish OK
Designed to load a small amount of fragrance for optimal everyday scent. Cloudy when used with high-vanillin fragrances, which is normal and doesn't affect performance.
Premium option
Strong scent · stays clear with any fragrance
Higher ethanol content keeps the formula crystal clear regardless of fragrance choice, and allows for higher fragrance loading for stronger scent throw.
Step Zero
Four ingredients regardless of which base you choose.
Signature for soft everyday sprays, Luxe for stronger and clearer sprays. See above to pick.

Shop mister capsMethod one
Three steps, three minutes. The simplest way to make a room spray at home.
Best for soft, everyday scent. Cloudy with high-vanillin fragrances - that's normal.
Pour 99ml of Signature Room Spray Base into a clean pouring jug.
Add 1ml of your chosen fragrance oil. Stir thoroughly until fully combined.
Pour the mixture into your 100ml spray bottle and twist on the mister cap. Shake, spray, and enjoy.
Method two
A little more involved, but with stronger scent throw and a clear finish regardless of fragrance.
Best for stronger, longer-lasting sprays. Contains ethanol - work in a well-ventilated area.
Set up in a well-ventilated space, away from tarnished surfaces. Luxe Base contains ethanol, which can affect some metal finishes.
Pour 80-95ml of Luxe Room Spray Base into a clean pouring jug. Use less base for a stronger spray, more for a softer one.
Add 5-20ml of your chosen fragrance oil (the rest of your 100ml total). Stir thoroughly for 1-2 minutes until fully combined.
Pour the mixture into your 100ml spray bottle, leaving a small gap at the top. Twist on the mister cap.
Give the spray 24-48 hours to settle before first use - the fragrance fully integrates with the ethanol carrier during this time, giving you the best scent throw on first spray.
When things go sideways
Common room spray issues and how to fix them.
What's happening: totally normal. Signature Base goes cloudy with fragrances that contain vanillin (very common in vanilla, caramel, and gourmand scents).
Fix: the cloudiness doesn't affect how the spray performs - it still smells great. If clarity matters (e.g. gifting), switch to Luxe Base which stays clear with any fragrance.
What's happening: if you used Signature Base, the 1% fragrance load is designed for soft everyday scent. If you used Luxe and went with 5%, that's the lower end.
Fix: for stronger sprays, switch to Luxe Base and go with 15-20% fragrance load. Or spray more freely - a single pump of a soft spray won't fill a room, but 3-4 pumps will.
What's happening: usually a clogged nozzle or air bubble.
Fix: first, pump the cap several times - sometimes it just needs to prime. If still clogged, unscrew the cap, rinse the nozzle under warm water, and let it dry before re-attaching. If the issue persists, the cap may be defective and we'll replace it.
Luxe Base is designed for room sprays, not body application. For body sprays and perfumes, use our Perfume Base instead - it's formulated for skin contact, with the right ethanol grade and fragrance loading guidelines for personal use.
A 100ml room spray typically lasts 3-6 months with daily use of a few pumps. Both bases keep well in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight - so don't worry about your spray "going off" between uses.
